Photos from Midnattsloppet
Once a year, Södermalm stops being a neighborhood and becomes a stage. Midnattsloppet brings around 45,000 runners through the streets of Stockholm's most photogenic district — 5, 10, or 21 kilometers, everyone in the same color t-shirt, a shade that changes every year. There's a costume competition running alongside the official distances, and the whole thing feels less like a race than a folk festival that happens to involve running.
I've run it myself but this year, I left the shoes at home and brought a camera instead.
The weather cooperated it was warm, still, light lingering long into the evening, and the crowds along the route were bigger for it.
I shot the evening with my Fujifilm X-T5 and a Viltrox 27mm f/1.2. Midnattsloppet runs well into dusk, and that wide-open aperture did the heavy lifting once the light started to go, enough to keep the shutter speed honest without reaching for a flash.
